!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reminded me how much I cherish my own MR2. Every day I smile to drive such a bright, happy car. What are your most awesome adventures with your car?
My favorite type of car moment was exemplified when I was leaving the parking garage at my university a few weeks ago. It was a Thursday, much like today, around 5pm. Not much traffic in the structure since classes were already out.
Each level of the structure has four aisles with parking spots on either side. The 3rd aisle also serves as a ramp between levels. I was driving along the 4th aisle towards the ramp to leave the structure. I saw another car out of the corner of my eye, going up the ramp and entering aisle 2, on the far side of the ramp.
As I turned to go down the ramp, I heard a screech of brakes from the car in aisle 2. It began to reverse, and came into view from behind some cars parked in the aisle.
It was another MR2! I stopped on the ramp and waved, activating the pop-up headlights in the universally rad gesture of respect and acknowledgement. The other MR2 reflected the same gesture.
I continued on my way and the other MR2 continued towards finding a parking spot. We haven’t crossed paths since, but it’s moments like that which remind me that I drive something special. It’s the sense of community and shared understanding.
Pictured: Not the same MR2 (I saw a first-gen in the parking garage but this red one is a 2nd gen like mine)
While my car isn’t complete (from the standpoint of modification), it’s still the source of many acknowledging nods and headlight pop-ups.
The fact that I can drive a car that’s not perfect , but still awesome to certain segments of the community, has always been worth the trouble of keeping such an old vehicle on the road.
What’s your favorite adventure or moment with your car?

My favorite all time journey was my dad driving what is now my truck home from Edmonton to Vancouver (720 miles approx.).
The truck hadn’t driven in 15 years, he took it to a dealership for fluid changes, safety inspection and we set off. No radio, no A/C just an old truck for 12 hours of mountain highways.

Probably the first moment getting back in the TSX after Acura serviced it and I turned in the TLX loaner I had.
Picture isn’t from that day, but it’s one of my favorites. I bought the right car.

When I got the keys to my E92 and my Mustang. The BWM was the first car I could truly call mine alone and it was love at first sight. It isn’t something that will attract attention and flies under the radar of cops but that car is the best of all world’s for me. It strikes the perfect balance of speed, handling, practicality, ride comfort and styling. Each time I pull away from a stop light that car is putting a smile on my face. The Mustang like the BMW was also love at first sight. I had spent about a year looking for a car that would be perfect for a project. Then I stumbled on this.
Then I also remembered the car that first got me into cars was my father’s Lincoln LSC which shares the same platform. I called the seller and arranged to meet up. I heard the car before I saw it and when I saw how clean the car was underneath I was sold. The interior was really shot but I didn’t care about that. Right now the car is still sketchy to drive but nothing has let my inner Hoon quite like this car has. It’s LOUD, makes me laugh to the point of tears and will effortlessly do a burnout down an entire block. If this car is this enjoyable all ratted out I can’t wait to see how the final product turns out. Never thought I’d own one but now that I have one I can’t imagine ever not having one in my life.

Took a month off work and drove from Massachusetts to Oregon to Massachusetts to DC to Massachusetts, with a stage rally and a lot of national parks along the way. For much of the trip I either camped out of or even slept in the car. The car was freedom, adventure, and a familiar home. It was fantastic.

Probably my cross country move in my Miata. That is a pretty excellent adventure:

And brokering the deal to buy a car in the middle of it all:

Oh and while it was a terrible life choice, it was an entertaining adventure to buy the Neon instead of renting a normal car while my Miata was down for a month of major body work up until the day before I left for the drive! From day one that car was a shitbox but its still being driven daily by my dad now so I saved it from the junkyard for now:

When I drove down from my little desert hovel to Newport Beach for the Rev9 Miata meetup. Showed up to the event in my stock car, led a bunch of Miata owners down the wrong road before eventually finding the PCH, helped raise hell roaring through this swanky $$$$$ town, and crashed a fancy-pants restaurant parking lot with an impromptu meetup.
Ended up making it to a smaller parking lot meet with the organizers where we shot the shit for a while...been meaning to go to one of their meets.
It was a 500 mile day trip and I’d do it all over again.

The day I traded my Gen Coupe in for my current GTO. From Savannah, Ga to Newport News, Va, and back in one day with my dad. The GTO is so much more comfy, well made, and got better gas mileage than my Gen Coupe. He fell asleep getting onto the Interstate mid sentence saying “he won’t fall asleep. He is going to stay......” Then in South Carolina he woke up and finished his sentence “up and keep me company on the way back to the house.”

Oh man, so many good ones. The most fun was probably running the Gambler 500-Illinois last year. I can’t wait to do it again!
